Welcome back to The Library!

We've had a great time in 'The Jordan Library' since I last wrote to you. Amongst other things we made trophies for 'Waste Week' which were won by 2S and 4K who were very happy to receive them. Well done to everyone for being so creative!!!

I hope you all had a lovely time during the Easter Holidays!
I hope also, that you found some time to read for pleasure..!
I'm looking forward to hearing all about what you did and have seen a lot of you already today. I was very happy to see so many children returning their finished books on time and swapping them for new ones!

Now, I need some help....

  • World Book Night - 23/04/14 - Books to give away for Bonneville Staff, Parent and Carers! I know lots of you have grown ups at home who are very busy and don't get to read as much as they might like to. I will be giving 18 books away in the playground at 3.15 so if you think your parent/carer would like to get back into reading more regularly, let them know and give them a bit of peace to read :-)

  • Wish list for The Jordan Library                                                                                           Please come and add to the list of books that we'd like to have in The Jordan Library, it's growing fast!!!
Bye for now :-)

Busy Times in The Jordan Library!!!

Hello!

My first blog from 'The Jordan Library' has been a little while in getting to you as it has been a particularly busy time of late!

In addition to the usual comings and goings, we have had:

  • A large donation of books from the Bunch family, who used to come to Bonneville and clearly haven't forgotten us! Thanks to them, as we now have even more copies of the 'Tom Gates' series and a couple of titles we didn't have. Lot's more from the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' series and 'Skulduggery Pleasant' also and far too many other books to mention, but some lovely classics, modern classics and all of them are in perfect condition!
  • A large donation from the Rizzolo-Blackman family, who have given us a great variety of books (both fiction and non-fiction), which include 'The Big Bad Book of Horrid Henry' and 'The Big Pig Book' by Dick King Smith and other smaller books too! Again, they have been beautifully looked after and will be enjoyed very much by anyone reading them, I particularly like the gorgeous picture books. Thank you!
  • Our 'Terrific Topic Task' wall  is growing fast and has had to move both upwards onto the notice board and downwards onto the radiator! The facts are Fantastic! There are even illustrations on some of them, come and have a read!!!
  • We have had our last delivery of books in this financial year from 'Foyles' (our favourite large bookshop we like to visit up in town). This order included a much requested third sequel in Jacqueline Wilson's 'Hetty Feather' series - 'Emerald Star', I chose two books by friend and author Bruno Vincent (in readiness for his exciting year 5 and 6 visit), his brilliant first book for children, 'Grisly Tales From Tumblewater' and its equally brilliant sequel 'School For Villains'. Miss Francis also helped in her recommendation of 'Rabbits' written by John Marsden and illustrated by the fantastic Shaun Tan, this picture book cleverly tackles the colonisation of Australia and promotes cultural awareness and care for the natural world. There are lots of other lovely new books in this order, both fiction and non-fiction. As well as a great new book on contemporary art, we have 'Free?', a book of short stories produced by Amnesty International, written by several popular authors - current Children's Laureate, the marvellous Malorie Blackman, Jamila Gavin, Eoin Colfer and Roddy Doyle to name but a few; with the passing of Nelson Mandela in December it seemed a timely purchase.
  • World Book Day was the 6th of March and the celebrations began days before, in preparation for his visit, I read to years 5 and 6 a short story from Bruno Vincent's 'Tales from Tumblewater'. We turned the lights off and sat in the gloom to add to the atmosphere of his creepy narrative. The children listened intently and had all sorts of interesting theories for the characters' motives and predictions for the plot!!!
  • Years 5 and 6 thoroughly enjoyed  their visit with Bruno Vincent, buying his especially signed (and doodled) books and so far have been inspired to write their own short stories mini graphic novels and artwork. I look forward to having a look at their completed work and will try to get some photos to post!
  •  World Book Day arrived and with the fantastic help from local bookshop 'Tales on Moon Lane' and parent helpers Lorna and Anna we had an extremely busy, but successful distribution of free World Book Day tokens and books! All three hundred and ninety nine children were given a token to swap for a book or redeem against a book purchase. Thank you to everyone involved and I hope you all enjoy your new books!!!
  • Remember to use your World Book Day voucher by the 30th of March!
Today is the 7th of March and everyone in school has dressed up as a favourite book character, they are doing all sorts of book related activities in their classes, which gives me the opportunity to write to you! What a busy time it's been since the February half term?!?

I can't promise such long posts in the future, but I'll do my best to write to you again soon!

Happy reading!!!
Miss Quigley :-)
